Love that kind of news!

Wow.  We’ve been honored to be on some national TV shows and magazines and such.  But now Localicious comes along and puts us among the nation’s most popular BBQ spots!  See Localicious Blog Here While we think we have an awesome staff and crank out some pretty tasty Q, we know these things really boil down to how customers feel about their experience here.  We’re so thankful that for 14 years those customers have continued to make things like this happen.  Thanks!

I wish

Ipad, Ipod, I-whatever. We love them all. Macs and all things Apple hold a special place in our hearts. We sure wish more people who make stuff for restaurants felt the same way. Let me rephrase that. We wish more people who make stuff for larger restaurants with good sized menus with more than one location that take credit cards and gift cards felt the same way. Our POS (Point of Sale) system is pretty much state of the art. By that, I mean antiquated, running on Windows XP (or maybe 3.1 I can’t tell), but about the best available for a large operation. We’d love to think we could throw in a POS that runs on Mac OS, but we just don’t see any good ones out there. Apple’s reluctance to offer a touch screen Imac or anything else larger than the tablet means those of us in retail can forget throwing our traditional POS systems away and replacing with Mac-based ones. Along comes the Ipad and kinda starts to change that landscape, but so many things still need to be overcome to make something with that small a form plausible. And even some of the better apps available out there haven’t come to grips with things like how to accept gift cards. Own a couple of restaurants and want to accept co-branded cards at both places? Forget about it. We applaud folks making it work for them — The Coffee Shop at Agritopia has come up with a very elegant Ipad solution that works for them (good job Chris!). Others are giving it a whirl. We’re going to wait and see for a while but in the meantime if you see someone out there in retail making great use of Ipads or better yet an Imac or something running MacOS we’d love to hear about it. We’d throw an Imac out there tomorrow, but we don’t think many of you want to stand in line while we use a mouse to find each item you ordered! There’s a reason Ipads are making such a splash — touch screen’s fast and simple. We just wish it could be done on a “larger” scale!

I do

We get quite a few questions every day about what types of catering we offer, and whether we do weddings and “higher end” events. Of course. We do just about everything — church gatherings, weddings, funerals, office parties, block parties, and everything in between. With prices as low as $7.99 per person we think we’ll be able to hit your price point. If you don’t see an offering that makes sense for your group, just let us know. We’ll make sure you get whatever you need — china, chafing dishes, or just about anything else. Every one of our managers is ready to help make sure you get whatever you need. We’d suggest starting with an online catering quote request right here on our site. We’ll take it from there!

Love ya Dad(s)

We took care of Mom on her special day.  Now on Father’s Day, we’ll be pulling homemade corn bread out of the oven all day, and topping it off with our own honey butter.  Then we’ll be giving it to all Dads free with their meal.  Speaking of Dads, ours are still very much involved in our lives and our businesses.  Joe’s Dad lives right around the corner from Joe’s Farm Grill.  He gets to enjoy a burger or a date shake in his old living room!  And our Dad spends his days masquerading as @bbqdeliveryguy bringing the catered yummy all over town.  Love ya Dads!

Clean Delicious Friendly

You may have seen Clean Delicious and Friendly on the hats our employees wear. What’s that all about? Actually, it’s what we’re all about. Every day. Every conversation. Every interaction. Every manager meeting. That’s what we do. We try to keep our 1929 building, and everything you see (and perhaps more importantly the areas you don’t see) clean. We talk about how to make it cleaner. We do things like add new sod to the park so kids have a great place to play. We work on delicious by making sure the recipes (most of which were created before we opened in 1998) are adhered to every day so the beans taste just the way they did on opening day. Friendly is what we look for when we hire, when we train, and with each interaction all day long. We hope you see our motto in the face of every employee every day.

Love ya Mom(s)

Happy Mother’s Day to one and all! Reminder all Moms get free homemade strawberry shortcake with their meal. Enjoy!

So while we were giving away thousands of free meals on customer appreciation day, people were donating thousands of books to Loving Through Literacy, while at the same time money was raised along Gilbert Road for scholarships at the high school art walk. Wow. Gilbert has it going on!

Free and Fox

Free Day Wed 5/4 11a-3p 4p-8p (suggest being in line by 730pm at the latest). Encouraging everyone to bring a new or gently used book of any type for Loving Through Literacy. Fox10 TV will be broadcasting live from the BBQ before opening. Likely air time 820am.

Countdown to Free = 2 (and 6)

Customer Appreciation Day, when we serve free meals to everyone, is in 2 days. What’s with the 6? In 6 short days (Mother’s Day) there will be even more free stuff. That’s when all Moms get FREE Strawberry Shortcake with their meal. We’ll free ya Wednesday, and again Sunday!

Free=Free

Getting questions about whether one must bring a book Wednesday 5/4 to receive a free meal. While we think bringing a new or gently used book for Loving Through Literacy is a great idea one must simply show up to get their free meal. There are no strings! Sandwich, 2 homemade sides and a drink 11a-3p, 4p-8p.
